KNOW ABOUT ANIMALS

SHORT HISTORY
About 4.5 billion years ago,our earth formed and became 3rd planet in the solar system. Since then around 800 million years ago living organism (animals) started to form. Different types of animals lived ,living in different era. Some of them evolved and some extinct. Now we are living in Cenozoic era, Quaternary period, recent epoch. Around us over 8.7 million animal species are living. New species are also discovering.

CLASSIFICATION OF ANIMALS

VERTEBRATES

Vertebrates are commonly identified as, they have bake bone (Spinal cord ). They have a hard skeleton made of bone, that supports body tissue and muscle.
Eg: Mammals, Reptiles, Birds, Fish are comes under vertebrates.

MAMMALS

Mammals are warm blooded animals. There are 130 billion mammals can found world wide. Around 6,495 species are found. Mammals nourish their newborn offspring with milk. They have mammary gland in their body which produce milk. This milk is called "True milk".
Eg: Humans, Blue whale, Bat are belongs to mammals.

BIRDS

Birds are also warm blooded vertebrates. Birds are the only group to fly so they are called Aves. They lay eggs, have strong and light weight skeleton system. Between 9000 to 10,000 species of birds are found flying in sky world wide.

REPTILES

Reptiles are belongs to the class reptilia. They are cold blooded animals. Some reptiles lay eggs (oviparous) and some are viviparous. There are more than 7000 known living species of reptiles are present.

Eg: Snakes, crocodiles, turtle, lizards.

FISH

Fishes are also cold blooded animals. They are aquatic, gills bearing animals. Approximately 34,000 species of fish are found in fresh and salt water.

AMPHIBIANS

All kind of amphibians are belongs to the group Lissamphibia. They spend their lives in both water and land. In Greek " amphibians" means " double life". There are approximately 8000 species of amphibians can seen. Most of them were frogs.

Eg: Frogs,toads,salamanders.

INVERTEBRATES

Invertebrates don't have back bone (spinal cord) or skeleton system.
Eg: Arthropods (insects,arachnids)
       Mollusks (snails,octopuses)
       Annelids (earthworm,leaches)
       Cnidarians (hydras,jellyfish,corals)

ANIMAL HABITAT

Animals live in coniferous forest, mountains, savanna, polar ice, tropical rain forest ,tundra,Mediterranean, temperate grass land, deciduous forest, even in your home as a pet and everywhere in the world.
They evolved and adapted to their environment. Adaptation gives them good and quality of life. Such animals can only live in their particular environment. They cannot move to other environmental zone suddenly, may be evolution make them move or they can move according to food or water scarcity.

ARBOREAL HABITAT

Animal which can eat, sleep, live in the trees are called Arboreal animals. these animals only live in the trees, canopies and in branches of the trees. Arboreal habitat can seen in coniferous and deciduous forest.
Eg: Birds, cats,sloth, anteaters etc...

FOSSORIAL HABITAT

Fossorial animals live in the land by making hole. They dig the land and make hole to live inside in it. They are adapted to burrowing mode. They make tunnels in underground.
Eg: Rabbits, snakes, foxes etc....

CURSORIAL HABITAT

Cursorial animals are adapted to run fast. They have well developed strong limbs for locomotion.
Eg: dogs,cats,horses etc...

AQUATIC HABITAT

In aquatic habitat, animals live in water. They are adapted to live in the water.
Eg: Fish ,some reptiles

ANIMAL FOOD

CARNIVORES

Carnivore organism eat meat and flash of other animals. They are mostly called as predators. They do main role in the food web. Animals which these predator eats are called prey.
Eg: Big cats, Hyena, Black bear etc...

HERBIVORES

Herbivore animals gets nutrition from green plants. They only feed on plants, fruits, vegetables. They have special digestive system which digest plants and grass.
Eg: cow, goat, deer, horse etc...

OMNIVORES

Omnivore animal feeds on both plants and animals. They have specialized ability to digest both plants and animals. They also feeds on algae and fungi.
Eg: Dogs, bears, chimpanzee, Humans etc...
